How To Paint an Ikea Rug
Are you looking for a way to add some color and pattern to a door mat or rug? Well, you have come to the right place! Today we are showing you how to paint an Ikea rug with a geometric Morrocan inspired pattern.
We love a good IKEA hack and this project might be the cheapest one we have ever done! We used the SORTSO rug that costs only $3.99! Grab some acrylic paint and fabric medium and you are all set to create a one-of-a-kind foot mat.
How To Paint an Ikea Rug
The first step is to decide what color palette you would like to use for this Moroccan inspired rug. Pink, coral, yellow and light blue is a fun summery look, don’t you think? Earthy tones or even a black and white look would be a wonderful pattern and color to use.
Painters tape will be your best friend to start this project. Then after your initial diamonds are painted, you can free hand paint the rest of it!
What kind of paint to use on a rug
We strongly recommend to use fabric paint on cotton rugs. If you have acrylic paints already that you would like to use, make sure and mix in a fabric medium to that acrylic paint. This allows the paint to soak into the fabric properly and not get too stiff or rigid.
See how we made this Morrocan inspired floor mat from an inexpensive Ikea rug! We love adding color and pattern to the basic and boring! You can use any color palette that you would like. We went with a pink and coral theme for summer! I am so tempted to make one with muted earthy tones for the Fall season as well. This is a great way to add your favorite color to a back door or mudroom in your home. As an Amazon Associate and member of other affiliate programs, I earn from qualifying purchases.
