What is an Ikea Hack?
This is a simple answer. An Ikea hack is when you take a basic piece of Ikea furniture and transform it to something that looks a bit more high end. This can be achieved through paint, hardware, cabinet door fronts, etc.

Ikea hacking has become a favorite DIY project category for us. There is something so cool about taking an inexpensive piece of functional furniture and making it appear more high end. You can also achieve the look of a basic Ikea piece fitting your home aesthetic by adding some new paint or hardware.
How to dress up an Ikea Ivar cabinet
The Ikea Ivar cabinet is a basic pine wood cabinet. A few ideas on how to dress it up:
- Add new furniture legs
- Paint the cabinet a new color
- Add new cabinet hardware
- Adhere removable wallpaper inside (or even the outside!)
- Adhere fluting to the cabinet fronts

We painted the Ikea Ivar cabinet in Benjamin Moore’s color of the year, October Mist. Bu adding sophisticated brass cabinet hardware, it really gave this Ikea hack a wow factor!
