Favorite Sugar Cookie Recipe
Every Christmas as long as I can remember our go-to Christmas cookie is the yummy buttery sugar cookie. Our mom would be baking away and we would be watching and waiting to ice them. This was a wonderful family holiday tradition. I have been making this recipe on my own even since college and now the tradition lives on with my own family. Harper just loves to ice and decorate them!

Recipe:
– Cream 1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
– Add one egg & 1 tsp water. Beat until light and fluffy.
– Combine 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt. Sift together.
– Blend dry mixture into creamed mixture, divide dough in half. Wrap each half in waxed paper or plastic wrap and chill for one hour.
– Bake at 375 degrees for 6 – 8 mins.
*My oven runs hot…I bake mine at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. I like to take out my cookies before the edges start to turn the slightest bit brown. Watch them carefully!
I make my own frosting. My mom’s “recipe” is: use half a bag powdered sugar, a little bit (3 or 4 tablespoons) of milk, a tablespoon of butter and a dash of vanilla. Combine until desired frosting consistency. Continue adding powdered sugar and/or milk for desired consistency. The icing should be thick, not too runny.
