The Best Healthy Chocolate Shake
The days are getting warmer, which means it’s barbecue and ice cream weather. We went to the beach yesterday in Sausalito and all I wanted was a chocolate shake, but I’m not eating dairy these days.
So I asked my friend, holistic nutritionist Jen Nolan, for her favorite chocolate shake recipe. I knew it would be good, since a few months ago she shared some of her go-to healthy snacks, and they were all fabulous.

I absolutely loved this shake. It’s not too sweet, but just tangy enough from the cherries. The cacao gives it a great punch of chocolate.
You’re getting a serving or two of greens and good protein from the nuts. The shake gave me a good boost of energy and satisfied that summertime sweet tooth.
Ingredients
- 1 banana (sliced and frozen)
- 10 ice cubes
- 12 frozen cherries
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
- 1/4 cup pecans
- 2 big handfuls of spinach
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 6 drops stevia (optional)
How to make a Healthy Chocolate Shake
Put all of the ingredients into blender or Vitamix. Blend until desired consistency. This recipe makes 2 servings.
This is sure to become a family favorite! Protein, greens, fruit and chocolate all wrapped into one… couldn’t ask for anything more. Well, some days I could ask for chocolate donuts!
