Homemade Ginger Beer Recipe

A drink of choice has been the Moscow Mule around our house for the past few years. The drink is made up of ginger beer, vodka, and fresh lime juice. We decided we needed to try and make our very own ginger beer. It is fairly easy to make with a short list of supplies and ingredients. You should give this homemade ginger beer recipe a try for your next BBQ or party!

Homemade Ginger Beer

I used a recipe from epicurious but made a few minor changes:

– about 1/4 pound of ginger, peeled

– 3/4 cup sugar

– 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

– 1/4 teaspoon active dry yeast

– about 2 quarts water

Supplies: microplane, funnel, 2 quart bottle with top, fine mesh sieve

Preparation:

1. Grate ginger using microplane. You will need about 3 1/2 tablespoons of grated ginger.

2. Use fine-mesh sieve to press out ginger juice.

3. Using a funnel, pour just the juice into the bottle. Next pour the rest of the ingredients into the bottle. Leave about 1 1/2 inches from top.

4. Shake the bottle gently to combine all of the ingredients.

Let the bottle stand in room temp (store in dark warm place) for 48 hours. Then put in fridge for up to one week.
