  1. Slice strawberries into small pieces and put in a saucepan. Add corn starch, maple syrup and lemon juice.
  2. Cook mixture over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes, until it thickens and the strawberries soften. Chill strawberry filling in fridge until cool.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Roll out your dough, either homemade or store bought refrigerated dough on a lightly floured surface.
  4. Using a heart cookie cutter, cut out an even number of hearts.
  5. Drop a tablespoon of the filling in the middle of half of the hearts. Brush your egg wash on the outer edge of those hearts.
  6. Make the remaining hearts a bit bigger using a rolling pin. Place those hearts on the top of all the hearts with filling.
  7. Using a fork, crimp the edges closed. Using a knife, cut a few vents into the dough and then brush the egg wash on the top of the hand pies and sprinkle with sugar. You can even sprinkle colored sugar on top instead!
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until golden brown. Makes around 1 dozen heart hand pies.

  1. YUM! What it is about tiny pies that makes them so much yummier than a slice of regular pie? I’m not sure. But it’s real.

  2. Hi Alice & Lois, I must say the recipe for the heart hand pie looks inviting. Checked it out and will try this with my daughter. Still, your donuts look just as fabulous and so neatly done. They look truly sumptuous and much too inviting too!
