What is Decoupage?

Decoupage is a thin glue that is used in so many different craft projects. It is a technique to adhere paper or thin materials onto something. We use the brand, Mod Podge. It is the secret ingredient or adhesive in decorating pumpkins using paper napkins. It is also used as a clear coat finish. We love using the Matte finish Mod Podge. But it also comes in gloss as well.

What you need to make Mod Podge Paper Napkin Floral Pumpkins:

How to make floral pumpkins:

  • You will first want to remove the back layer of the napkins. This will almost give you a tissue paper like material to decoupage onto pumpkin.
  • Rip or cut the napkin into strips. We cut ours to about 2 inches wide. You can also cut the tops of the sections to be a bit smaller than the middle. This allows less overlap near the stem of the pumpkin.
  • Now it is time to adhere the strips of napkin to the pumpkin. First apply a thin layer of mod podge to the section of pumpkin. Then gently press the napkin onto the pumpkin. Use your fingers to gently smooth out the paper.
  • Continue this process until the entire pumpkin is filled with the floral paper napkin strips.
  • Allow to dry and then add a thin coat of mod podge to the outside of the napkins.
  • Allow to dry and then use to decorate anywhere in your home!
